Youth in 5th grade as well as Middle School aged and their parents/caregivers

A program that builds families from the inside out!

Eligibility/Commitment
  • We now offer 4 cycles! 2 in Fall (September-December) and 2 in Winter (February-May/June)
  • 2 groups for middle school aged youth and parents/caregivers in Fall (Spanish speaking)
  • 1 group for 5th grade children and their parents/caregivers in Spring (Spanish speaking)
  • 1 group for African American/Black parents/caregivers and their 5th grade children (Spring)
  • For Spanish speaking sessions, parents/caregivers must be able to communicate in Spanish (Bilingual preferred)
  • All youth sessions are offered in English, so youth/children must be able to communicate in English (Bilingual preferred for Spanish speaking cycles)
  • Commit to attending at least 12 of the 14 sessions in order to graduate
Program Summary

SFP is a program that focuses on improving parenting skills, family relationships, and life skills, addresses teen behaviors while supporting their goals and dreams, and teaches parents how to communicate with their children on the topics of alcohol and drugs.

  • 14-week cycles for parents/caregivers of 5th grade and middle school aged youth
  • Youth and their parents learn and practice skills to held build a strong family such as communication, rewarding good behavior, setting limits, and family meetings
  • Family meal served at every session
  • Babysitting services for children 10 and under
  • Meet other parents and youth with similar stories
  • Families earn $50 -$100 and youth get a $25-$50 gift card at the completion of the program
  • Weekly raffles and family portraits at Graduation
Schedule

The program is offered year round via 4 cycles. Each cycle is 14 weeks in duration.

Fall
  • 1 day per week for 2.5 hrs. 14 weeks total (2 concurrent cycles)
  • Orientation: Every September @6pm (families contacted for date)
  • Session Dates: September – December
  • Days: Tuesdays or Wednesdays
  • Times: 6:00PM – 8:30PM
Spring
  • 1 day per week for 2.5 hrs. 14 weeks total (2 concurrent cycles)
  • Orientation: Every February @ 6pm (families contacted for date)
  • Session Dates: February – May/June
  • Days: Tuesdays or Wednesdays
  • Times: 6:00PM – 8:30PM
