Communities Mobilizing for Change on Alcohol (CMCA) Youth Action Group:

Horizons’ Environmental Prevention Youth Action Groups have been aligned to support the citywide San Francisco Prevention Coalition initiatives through youth-led work at the neighborhood level using the evidence based Communities Mobilizing for Change on Alcohol program model and framework.

Each Youth Action Group will design and carry out campaigns and projects that stem from their individual program modules, while supporting the overall Coalition campaign and workplan. Campaigns and initiatives have included counter-advertising campaigns, store makeovers, and policy work including resolution development, adoption, and advocacy.

Program Summary

The Environmental Prevention (EP) Events/Campaigns group is one of the top programs in San Francisco. Led by and for youth, the program aims to promote and apply youth development and leadership principles using an environmental prevention lens. Youth will participate in the design, development and implementation of community wide EP events, campaigns, and forums that help make the community a healthier place where youth can grow and thrive.

Youth will be trained in environmental prevention strategies, event production, and marketing, and apply these skills to lead and host events focused on building momentum and supporting citywide and neighborhood-level Coalition campaign efforts and initiatives. Additionally, 2 youth leaders will be chosen to represent the group at monthly Coalition meetings and events.

Last but not least…

If you are interested in building community and working collaboratively, join the EP Events/Campaign group! As a program participant, you will get the opportunity to bring public policy issues to the limelight and organize to change the conditions that affect YOUR City. There is no power like youth power. Plus, you will get to meet other young folks that are agents of social change just like you. This program is important because it teaches you to find your voice at a young age. In a society that does its best to strip youth of their agency and spirit, it is essential to help youth find their voice and mobilize to bring about lasting change!
